WHY HIRE A DOULA?
You may be here because you already know you want a doula, but if you are still on the fence, then here's what you need to know.
We are here to support a birthing person and their partner physically and emotionally before, during and after birth. We will advocate for you, but will never push our own agenda. We work to keep the lines of communication between a birthing person and their care providers open and positive, and make sure that any decision you have to make is fully informed. We will aim to maintain the optimal circumstances for you to give birth they way you hope to.
Doulas attend homebirths, as well as birth centre and labour ward births and it has been shown that having a doula present at birth can :
· reduce the rate of induction
· reduce the use of pain relief
· reduce the rate of an instrumental birth
· reduce the chance of having a cesarean
· reduce anxiety
· shorten labour
· promote a better memory and experience of birth
· increase confidence
· increase the rate of initiating breastfeeding
A doula's support is unconditional. It does not depend on what type of birth you would prefer or what pain relief you choose. A doula will listen to what you need and want, and make that and a postive experience of birth, their only goals.
" My labour didn't go at all how I expected, but I still remained calm throughout thanks to
the information and techniques Julia had taught. "
